What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a primary health-care profession, which specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and overall management of conditions that are due to problems with the joints, ligaments, tendons and nerves of the body.

People of all ages and from all walks of life may benefit from chiropractic treatment, from babies and children, throughout adulthood and during pregnancy.

Chiropractors treat problems with the joints, bones and muscles, the effects they have on the nervous system and the consequences this has on the person. Treatment consists of a wide range of techniques designed to improve the function of the joints and muscles as well as relieving pain and spasm.

Some common conditions people seek chiropractic care for include; sciatica, back and neck pain, headaches, upper and lower limb pain and sports injuries. Furthermore, there is growing interest in the treatment of the newborn, where chiropractic may help with excess crying, feeding and sleeping problems.

What to expect?

The initial consultation lasts around 60 minutes which includes taking a detailed history of your complaint, past medical history and a full examination including orthopaedic, neurological and chiropractic assessments designed to identify the cause of your complaint, and whether further treatment is indicated.

If your chiropractor identifies an underlying condition, for which other treatment is appropriate, you will be referred to your GP without delay.

Treatment offered at the River Exe Chiropractic Clinic may consist of a combination of chiropractic manipulation / mobilisation, soft tissue work, taping and rehabilitation
